Introduction to the Graduate School of Arts
¡ Division of Liberal Arts

Basic Subjects are offered as General Course, and they are common to students in all five departments as general education requirement. A course in this category can be counted toward credit course, for either requirements or electives. Classes are offered from "Fundamental of Arts Course" and from "Introduction to Liberal Arts Course", so that a student can acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and thinking power to become media art specialist.

Diversity of General Course for Futuristic Creators.

The Fundamental of Arts Course is built on an overview of those four fields of photography, imaging, design and media art. It also includes subjects basic to media art, including art, aesthetics, art history, and psychology, as well as cognitive science, chromatics, visual transmission theory, visual psychology, visual physiology, visual figurative arts, museology, and so on.
Those students mastering museology are eligible to acquire the certification to become a museum curator, accredited to have finished required studies and basic training.

Human Science, Communication, and Sports Science.

Introduction to Liberal Arts is divided into those three principle areas of Human Science, Communication, and Sports Science.
"Human science" covers a diverse range of subjects including overviews of sociology, law, pedagogy, religious studies, physics, chemistry and so on. Interdisciplinary subjects are also offered including environmental chemistry, light and vision, graphics and data, basic mathematics for architecture and design, theory of multinational comparative culture. Those practical subjects such as writing techniques and marketing theory are also included in the basic studies, which will support our students to understand how the essential qualities of a practicing artist will be related among society and nature. We are currently considering ways to integrate student course selection into this program of study.
"Communication" includes language instruction in English, German, Russian, French, Chinese, and Japanese, and computer training.
Students from abroad will select between Japanese or English as their foreign language subject. "Sports science" aims to provide physical education, including practical coaching in physical exercise.
The instructors responsible for teaching these subjects have performed substantial research in their specialized fields, the results of which can be seen at Japanese and international academic conferences, in writings and in research announcements.
