Digital media, having evolved with the proliferation of computers and the Internet, is now transforming the world. "Media Art" that combines digital media and art is establishing itself as a new artistic field. Established in 2001, the Department of Media Art provides an education in the arts that was previously unavailable. With an original curriculum that covers three fields (images, sound and text), and unconstrained by genre and media classifications, we endeavor to equip students with a comprehensive skill set to enable them to participate in any artistic endeavor freely.
Original Curriculum Covering Three Fields:
Images, Sound and Text, and the Latest Facilities.
An original curriculum had been prepared,
linking the three fields of "images,
sound and text", which are essential
for expression in the era of media art. In
support of this program of learning, facilities
vastly superior to those at other universities
have been set up, including a digital sound
studio equipped with the latest machines and
software, and an imaging studio equipped with
pro-class editing equipment and lighting equipment.
A Student will Freely Choose whether They
Become a Generalist or a Specialist.
During the first and second years of study,
students receive practical training and guidance
from experts in all artistic and technical
fields, including design, computer graphics,
sound, programming, and hardware production.
Thereafter, students are free to choose their
field of specialization based on whether they
desire to become a generalist in the area
of artistic expression or an expert in a particular
field.
Works are Produced Starting at the First Year
at our University. The Environment is Conducive
to the Pursuit of Technology.
Students actively engage in creative activities
through classroom exercises and collaborative
production enabled by project management techniques.
All works produced during that period are
recorded in a database in order to maintain
a record of the students' growth and achievement.
The works are also exhibited on a website.
Since those works can be viewed by the entire
world, students repeatedly strive to create
satisfactory works, provided a great motive
to refine their artistic sense and technique
through trial and error. |
