Department of Applied Computer Science
Computers exist in all scenes of everyday life. Just to give some examples: digital televisions, mobile telephones, motor vehicles, air-conditioning, rice cookers…When it comes to games and animation, it is already impossible for production without computers. At present, the demand from society is for people able to come up with concepts which have not been thought of so far, such as new methods for using computers and even more convenient methods of utilization, and for personnel able to combine ideas with actual equipment.
The department was the first from a 4 year system university in Japan to focus on the magnitude of “computer applications” and to introduce a curriculum centered on computer application and practical usage. The first of these graduates were sent out in the spring of 2008. This four years accumulation of experience will be made use of not only in education and research, but also for post graduate career guidance and support to find employment. Furthermore, most teaching staff have hands on experience, so a forte of the department is the potential to polish the immediate force of one’s own presentation competency and project execution performance from student days.
This Department of Applied Computer Science will introduce a two course system from school year 2008 with a “System Design Course” and “Application Course”. The “System Design Course” places a greater stress on technology with deeper study of technical knowledge, such as development of computer systems and network construction, to raise design and development specialists with a focus on programming capacity.
The “Application Course” places a greater stress on the application aspect to raise computer user specialists that make computers easier to use and discover new ways of utilization. The course is also able to be studied with peace of mind by people who have been in the humanities stream to date, but have an interest in managing the use of computers and would like to pursue those opportunities.
It is possible to make selections from an extensive range of prepared educational content for both courses in accordance with one’s objectives, such as subjects of interest, subjects to expand knowledge, and subjects to conquer weak points. This content will certainly be reliably learned by proactively tackling the course lectures.
Without a doubt, the future will continue to see a further deepening and intimacy of the relationship between people and computers, mobile telephones, home appliances and the like. Education which cultivates people who promise new growth and development, even after graduation ? that is the greatest feature of this department where computers are studied from various angles.
People that are already acquainted with computers to a certain extent, as well as people that want to study from the absolute basics are warmly welcomed. Together, let's study computers with greater insight and greater interest.
