| Creating a Beautiful Future for Life
and the Environment with the Power of Chemistry
Since the University was established, chemistry
instruction at this University has developed
in response to the demands of the times as
being conscious of aesthetics all the time.
gHow can we protect elifef and eenvironmentf
and somehow beautifully maintain these as
we live our lives?h In order to pursue this
most important theme for the society of future
generations, the gDepartment of Nanochemistryh
has been renewed to the gDepartment of Life
Science and Sustainable Chemistryh.
Into the future, the power of chemistry will
become all the more important to enable protection
of the global environment and further expansion
of civilized society. On the other hand, nanotechnology,
which manipulates a delicate world where substances
are measured in one billionths of a meter,
is attracting attention as technology which
will significantly change society.
This department takes chemistry as a base
and makes full use of nanotechnology in its
approach to glifeh and genvironmenth. Based
on a thorough system of small group instruction,
the aim is to nurture chemists with not only
expert knowledge and the latest technology,
but also the creative ability to build and
verify hypothesis, and ethical standards that
hold affection for human beings and nature.
Specifically, study and research is of very
immediate issues, including goptical energy
and advanced batteries in order to solve energy
problemsh, gdevelopment of electronic paper
to abate deforestationh, and gresearch into
the most mysterious subject of life with biomolecules
approachh. Furthermore, a learning support
system is in place to allow students that
have trouble with the study of chemistry and
mathematics, the so called sciences, to study
with peace of mind. The department offers
plenty of support for people that possess
a high awareness of wanting to study and understand
more. We are cultivating the personnel being
sought by society with group learning, lessons
which also incorporate presentations, fostering
of communication ability, and merging knowledge
from research. In addition, we are also enriching
our systems for the support of daily living
activities, acquiring qualifications, and
employment.
Following graduation, employment is found
in all sorts of manufacturing industries,
starting with chemical corporations, food
companies, and pharmaceutical companies, as
well as companies, organizations and government
agencies involved in chemical analysis and
environmental measurement. Furthermore, the
path is also open to become curators which
conduct research in institutions such as museums,
or educational staff in junior and senior
high schools. A great number of people advance
to the Graduate School of this University
and other universities, with the goal of reaching
maturity as fully fledged engineers or researchers.
We hope to contribute to the creation of
a beautiful global environment by cultivating
people which translate their own judgments
into action.
That is the wish of this department.
