Entrance Examination Fee

  1. Entrance examination fee: ¥30,000 Prepare a postal order for ¥30,000 to cover the cost of the entrance examination fee at a post office. Do not write anything on the postal order.

Prior to Application

  1. Before submitting an application, people seeking research guidance must first of all consult with the instructors with regard to the contents of their research.

Announcements of Examination Results

  1. The results of examination will be posted on the Tokyo Polytechnic University's Atsugi Campus bulletin board at 14:00 on the day of examination results announcement.
  2. The notice of admission will be mailed to all successful applicants. Telephone inquiries about the examination results will not be accepted.
  3. Enrollment procedure documentation is scheduled to be sent out in the middle of March 2015. The deadline for completing all procedures is the end of March.

* Graduates of the Tokyo Polytechnic University are exempt from the entrance fee.
* The above is based on data from students entering the university for the 2014 academic year, and there is a possibility that the rates may change for students entering for the 2015 academic year.

Points to Note

  1. Note that there are cases in which ill-prepared application documents will not be accepted.
  2. Application documents cannot be returned.
  3. When sending documents by mail, make sure both the documents for the entrance qualification examination and the application papers are sent by registered mail (must arrive by the last day of the application acceptance period.)
  4. Modifications to submitted documentation after the application procedures have been completed will not be accepted.
  5. Paid entrance examination fees cannot be refunded under any circumstances.
  6. Make sure you bring your examination sheet with you to the examination.

1. Entrance Qualification for Applicants
<General Entrance Examinations>
People to whom any of the following items applies.

* People to whom 5. 6. 7. or 8. of entrance qualification for applicants applies must first take the examination of entrance qualification for applicants.
  1. University graduates and people expecting to graduate by March 31, 2015.
  2. People who have been awarded a bachelor degree in accordance with Article 104, Clause 4 of the School Education Law, and people expecting to be awarded a bachelor degree by March 31, 2015.
  3. People who have completed sixteen years of study in overseas schools or people who are expected to complete this by March 2015.
  4. People specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Ministry of Education Notification No.5 issued in 1953.)  * People who have graduated from vocational training schools, meteorology universities and National Defense Academies, etc.
  5. People who have studied at university for three or more years as of March 31, 2015, and who are deemed by the Graduate School of Engineering to have acquired the prescribed number of credits by achieving excellent results.(However, periods of absence from school will not be included in this calculation.)
  6. People who have completed fifteen years of study in overseas schools or people who are expected to complete this by March 2015, who are deemed by the Graduate School of Engineering to have acquired the prescribed number of credits by achieving excellent results.
  7. People who are deemed by the Graduate School of Engineering after a specific examination of entrance qualification for applicants to have equivalent or higher academic capabilities to people who have graduated from university, and who are 22 years or older of age by March 31, 2015. * People who have graduated from 2-year colleges, technical colleges, etc., and people who have completed their studies at overseas universities in Japan or equivalent educational facilities.
  8. People to whom items 1. to 7. do not apply, but who are deemed by the Graduate School of Engineering to have equivalent or higher academic capabilities to people who have graduated from university
<Special Working Adult Entrance Examinations>
For two or more years' working experience as an engineer or a researcher in the research institutions, the educational institutions or private companies, etc., regardless of their occupation when enrolling, and who fulfill one of the following requirements.
  1. University graduates and people expecting to graduate by March 31, 2015.
  2. People who have been awarded a bachelor degree in accordance with Article 104, Clause 4 of the School Education Law, and people expecting to be awarded a bachelor degree by March 31, 2015.
  3. People who have completed sixteen years of study in overseas schools or people who are expected to complete this by March 2015.

The examination of entrance qualification for applicants will be carried out by the Graduate School of Engineering, and each individual person will be notified of the results. Only applicants who have been deemed qualified for entrance are able to apply.

Selection Process and Examination Subjects (Master's Programs)

(1) Selection Process
Selection is based on a combination of application documentation and the examinations.
(2) Examination Subjects
1. General Entrance Examinations: 1st Term and 2nd Term

Questions will be asked on each specialist subject, and examinees must select and answer the predetermined number of questions for their own specialist subject. Oral examination will be held for each specialist subject
Industrial Chemistry Two questions each on physio-chemistry, inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry, the base of each specialist subject, will be asked. Examinees must select and answer three of these. (Calculators may be brought into the examination hall.)
Architecture and Wind Engineering Two questions each will be asked on each specialist subject (architectural structure engineering, structural methods and the history of architecture, design planning, and architecture environment engineering). Examinees must select and answer four questions in total, two questions of their own specialist subject plus two questions from other subjects.
Electronics and Information Technology Examinees must select and answer three questions from the questions asked on electrical mathematics, electromagnetism, electrical circuit, data mathematics, logical circuits, data processing and programming.

People who have had two or more years of study at university or research institutes, etc., after graduating from university or completing 16 years of study in overseas schools, and who are deemed by the Graduate School of Engineering to have equivalent or higher academic capabilities to people who have a master’s degree based on the fruit of the research.
  5. People who are deemed by the Graduate School of Engineering through the individual examination of entrance qualification for applicants to have equivalent or higher academic capabilities to people who have master’s degrees, and who are 24 years or older of age by March 31, 2015.
  6. People to whom items 1. to 5. do not apply, but who are deemed by the Graduate School of Engineering to have equivalent or higher academic capabilities to people who have master’s degrees.
<Special Working Adult Entrance Examinations>
